TRI Jorja TRI

This morning we got up bright and early so Jorja could compete in a triathlon.  She convinced two of her friends to do it with her.  They formed a relay team.  Jorja did the swimming, Olivia did the biking and Ashley did the running.  It was so fun!  There were kids as little as five competing.  I was so tempted to have Preston compete, but since he just learned how to ride his bike last week I was worried he would crash into other kids.  The little kids were so cute!  Some even rode with training wheels.  Totally want to do this next year!

 Seriously adorable!
There were two para-athletes.  How cool is that?
The way they did the swimming was pretty cool.  Maybe it is always like this, I have never been to a triathlon before.  Anyway, for Jorja's age group, she needed to swim a 100.  They had four lanes marked off.  The kids were sent every five seconds.  They would swim down one lane, then cross the ropes and swim back, cross the ropes as they zig-zaged their way down the pool.  I thought that was quite clever.

They weren't allowed to go off the starting blocks.
Jorja said the water was the coldest water she has ever been in!  The kids that did this last year said that last time the water was really warm.
Jorja did great and passed at least four kids.  Maybe more.  She ended swimming it in 2 minutes and 20 seconds.  It took a little longer to go under the ropes, but I still thought it was a great idea!
Olivia did the biking.  She was riding her cousins bike that she had never ridden before.  She couldn't figure out the gears and had her bike on super hard mode.  She couldn't figure out how to get it out.  Add to that fact there were three big hills!  She was exhausted when she finished!  I was so proud of her.  What a great friend.

Ashley was super speedy.  She only had to run .6 miles and she ran it in about five and a half minutes. After the long bike ride we were surprised to see her so quickly.  Olivia definitely had the hard part of the race!
Ashley finishing!

We were surprised to find out the girls were first place when they finished!  There was one threat.  The one threat ended up taking first. What was weird was it looked like the other team had an adult on their team.  Three people went up to get their ribbons and one was an adult.  I don't know why an adult would go up unless they competed.  The rules clearly stated that if you were doing a relay you would compete in the older age division.  That is just a little fishy.  Anyway, the girls are happy with their 2nd place and they had a great morning.  What a way to start the day!

 Ashley, Olivia & Jorja - 2nd place!
We went to Chick-Fil-A afterwards.  Jorja loved being there with her friends.

Tonight we went over to my dad's house.  We had more food.  Food is good.  Bubs, John, Brittany and Ian's family were there.  My kids jumped on the tramp and then watched a movie while Mike and I went and played wiffle ball.  Matt and I lost the first game to Mike and John. Pace and his girlfriend came and we convinced them to play.  Dad was the permanent pitcher.  John, Mike and I had the greatest comeback in history.  It was awesome.
